The Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) is looking for a new member to join its team! As a Purchasing Agent 2, you’ll be a part of the Purchasing Team within the Administrative Services Division’s Procurement and Distribution Bureau. This team is responsible for the annual procurement of over 100 million dollars in goods and services used by the Department of Transportation.

What you will need:

  • Knowledge and experience in creating bid solicitations, contract administration and management, and understanding of federal and state contract laws, regulations, and applications.
  • Ability to comprehend and accurately interpret and apply the Code of Iowa, Iowa Administrative Rules, agency policies, procedures, and office procurement guidelines appropriately and effectively.
  • Ability to work and apply mathematical computations involving percentages, ratios, and averages accurately.
  • Passion for customer service.

Here is what you will do: 
 
You will be responsible for compilation and organization of formal bid solicitations and requests for proposals for purchases over $50,000 in value on a routine basis as well as other solicitations for purchases under $50,000 in value via bidding processes for the procurement of a variety of goods and services. Coordinate and facilitate pre-bid meetings some onsite and virtual team meetings. Negotiation skills, contracting experience and knowledge of contract law is desired. This role will work closely with the Facilities Design team to procure facility construction items, ranging from New construction to building maintenance and repair.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Graduation from high school, or G.E.D., and six years of full-time work in the procurement of technical, standardized, expendable and non-expendable items;

OR

graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in business or public administration, accounting or economics and two years of the required experience;

OR

an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting one year of education (30 semester hours or one year) for each year of the required experience;

OR

employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to eighteen months as a Purchasing Agent 1.
