Contributing to Our Mission:
Even with nearly 2,900 employees, we’re all one team at the Iowa DOT. Our main goal is to keep people and goods moving on Iowa’s transportation system. As a member of our team, you’ll play a vital role by acting as a system administrator for the DOT server/application environment. You will also serve as a working project leader in the analysis, design, implementation, enhancement, maintenance, and documentation of server/application solutions for all divisions in the DOT.
Your responsibilities as a system administrator will include:
- Performing server / application installation and support at the server level
- Providing general Microsoft Windows support for the agency’s server infrastructure
- Installing Microsoft Windows Server Operating System
- Installing, configuring, and performing patching support for server application software
- Troubleshooting operational issues for server infrastructure
Your responsibilities as a technology leader will include:
- Overseeing and coordinating the installation and configuration of line of business applications by:
- Coordinating the implementation of applications and operating systems
- Reviewing end user documentation, writing documentation as necessary
- Training users and administrators
- Resolving issues with operation of the system by coordinating and overseeing the efforts of other support staff to assist as well as vendor support
- Supporting existing systems by consulting with existing users about industry best practices and new uses of the system
Travel:
Occasional travel may be required. Some overnight travel might be required. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's license.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university and experience equal to two years of full-time work: operating a multi-job computer; installing, operating and coordinating computer based networks; installing/maintaining database management systems; developing business application processes; developing/operating system programs; installing/maintaining personal computers, Local Area Networks and/or servers; managing operating systems; developing/ delivering information management training; providing Information Technology (IT) customer service; or designing/administering Internet sites;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting the completion of an approved curriculum/specialized training program developed and implemented by or in cooperation with state government; or eighteen semester hours of accredited post high school course work in one of the specialty areas listed above; or certification by an authorized educational institution/major computer or software producer in an area directly related to one of the specialty areas listed above, for the required education;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting one year of the required experience for thirty semester hours of the required education;
OR
employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to six months of full-time work as an Information Technology Specialist 3.
